LAMENTATIONS

Moving Music of Mourning, 6th - 20th c.

Friday, June 6, 2025, 7:30 p.m.

St. George’s Cathedral

Melos presents music of the past 14 centuries honouring those who have passed.  Gregorian chant, motets and instrumental music of the Medieval and Renaissance eras are complemented by two major choral works: Bach’s Trauer Ode - a tapestry of expressive melodies and rich Baroque orchestration - and Duruflé’s Requiem, a fascinating exploration of Gregorian themes in a 20th-century context, performed in the composer’s own version for chamber orchestra (organ, brass and strings).
